For Monia, poultry farming is becoming a practical way to earn a living and build a more secure future for her children. What began as a livelihood project has made encouraging progress: by May 2026, she was earning income, and our assessment of her management was clear. She was handling the business prudently and doing well.
That progress matters to us at The Platform Foundation. Our empowerment work seeks to give people a starting point from which they can use their abilities, take responsibility and provide for their families. Monia’s poultry enterprise shows why that starting point deserves patient, practical support.
Putting the foundations in place
In July 2025, preparations for the project were underway. Drinkers, feeders and heating materials had been purchased, and a deposit had been made for 1,000 chicks expected that September. Water provision was also part of the planning, with a solar pump and panels ready while drilling for the proposed well was still pending.
These preparations are part of the less visible work behind a poultry enterprise. Before birds can become a source of income, their care requires equipment, water, warmth and consistent attention. Supporting a livelihood means taking those practical requirements seriously.
Monia’s work is central to the story
As a widow and mother, Monia carries responsibilities that continue well beyond any project visit. The business gives her an opportunity to earn while working toward greater security for her children. Its progress also reflects her own effort and careful management. The support provided creates an opening; the person running the enterprise does the daily work of turning that opening into a livelihood.
We are encouraged by the income and progress reported so far. They give this story substance beyond the launch of a project and point to the value of following up on how an enterprise develops.
Empowerment with a longer view
Monia’s story belongs within our wider commitment to Education, Empowerment and Relief. Alongside immediate assistance for families in difficulty, we work to create opportunities for earning, learning and rebuilding. Our Farm Project follows a related approach, connecting agriculture with employment and food for the Dogo-Nahawa school.
Our vision is to raise a responsible generation. In Monia’s enterprise, that vision takes a practical form: a mother applying her abilities, managing an opportunity carefully and working toward her family’s future.
In recent years, several education systems have begun to reassess the role of technology in the classroom. Among the most notable is Sweden, which, after a period of strong digital integration, is now reintroducing printed textbooks, handwriting exercises, and reduced screen exposure, particularly for younger learners.

At The Platform Foundation, our work has always been rooted in a simple conviction: every child carries untapped potential, and every community grows stronger when that potential is nurtured. For years, we have focused on education, empowerment, and relief for children and families in underserved communities. As our impact deepens, we are widening our scope to include one group that has often been overlooked yet deserves intentional, compassionate support — children with learning disabilities.
Why This Matters Now
Across many communities, children with learning disabilities struggle in silence. They sit in classrooms where teachers lack the training to interpret their needs. Many face stigma, isolation, and the burden of being misunderstood. In rural areas, where educational disparities are already severe, these challenges become even more pronounced.
For us, ignoring this gap would contradict the very essence of what we stand for. Education without inclusion becomes a privilege for a few, rather than a pathway for all. Our desire is not just to provide access, but to ensure that access is meaningful, adaptive, and affirming.
Our Vision for Inclusion
We are working to build programmes that honor each child’s unique learning profile. This includes developing literacy and numeracy interventions tailored for children who learn differently, training teachers to recognize early signs of common learning disabilities, and creating safe spaces where learners feel encouraged rather than embarrassed by their pace of progress.
This commitment fits naturally within our existing work. Our literacy campaigns, creative arts academy, vocational pathways, and relief missions all benefit when we widen the circle to include every child — not just those who meet conventional expectations. An inclusive approach enriches the entire community, because it teaches empathy, patience, and respect for individual differences.
A Holistic Approach
The Platform Foundation has always taken a three-fold approach: spiritual, psychological, and mental development. These pillars guide our inclusive vision as well.
Spiritually, we affirm the dignity of every child, recognizing that God has placed value in each one, regardless of ability.
Psychologically, we support children and families by helping them understand that learning differences are not deficits. They simply require the right environment and resources.
Mentally, we continue to champion knowledge, training, and evidence-based strategies that help children thrive.
This holistic framework allows us to address not only the academic needs of these children, but also their emotional wellbeing and sense of belonging.

Caring for children with learning disabilities is not a side project. It is a strategic expansion of our mission to raise a responsible generation. We envision a future where parents feel supported, teachers feel equipped, and every child — regardless of reading speed, memory challenges, or processing differences — can proudly take their place in society.
