2025 Christmas Outreach to Internally Displaced Persons at Horop, Plateau State

We took Christmas to Horop this year, and it came with meaning... HOPE

On Friday, 12th December 2025, The Platform Foundation journeyed from Jos to the Internally Displaced Persons camp at Horop Secondary School in Mushere District, Plateau State. After about two and a half hours on the road, the team arrived at a camp now serving as temporary shelter for families who were forced from their homes following violent attacks earlier in the year.

Classrooms had become living spaces. Desks were pushed aside to make room for sleeping mats. Yet, despite loss and uncertainty, the IDPs at Horop welcomed the team with warmth and dignity.

The visit began with prayers led by a local church leader, setting a tone of hope and reassurance. Shortly after, the Foundation’s team leader, Mr. Alex Ntino, addressed the displaced families. He explained that the purpose of the visit was simple but deeply intentional: to remind them that they had not been forgotten, and that Christmas still carried meaning even in displacement.

He encouraged the families to remain steadfast in faith, to resist bitterness, and to respond to persecution with forgiveness and love. As a symbol of global solidarity, greeting cards sent by Christian partners in Finland were shared, reinforcing the message that prayers and support were reaching Horop from far beyond Nigeria.

The atmosphere shifted as food was shared and a communal meal was served. Laughter, conversation, and moments of relief filled the camp. Relief materials including bags of rice, beans, maize, school bags for children, and household items were distributed through church leaders/ camp leaders to ensure fair and organized sharing.

Rev. Musa Maren, speaking on behalf of the community, expressed deep appreciation to The Platform Foundation for standing with the displaced families during such a difficult season. He described the visit as timely and encouraging, offering prayers for the Foundation’s continued strength and impact.

The team returned to Jos later that evening, leaving behind not just relief materials, but reassurance, encouragement, and renewed hope.

Earlier in the same week, The Platform Foundation carried out similar Christmas outreach visits to IDPs at St. Thomas Church in Bokkos Township and Hurti Village, extending the same message of compassion, solidarity and Hope to other affected communities within the local government area.
